I'm on a poodle kick right now. It's Jazzie and Candie's fault, I swear.
I plan to upload more poodle art in the near future as designing and styling their hair is proving to be much addictive fun. But first, meet George, the third of my poodle characters that I had planned for the comic (yes, I think it'll be that). He grew out of a suggestion made by the lovely ~karja, and has been undergoing some developments lately. I'm quite pleased with his final design.
George is, simply put, a jock. Poodles, as some of you non-dogfreaks may not know, were originally bred to be water retrievers - the furstyles that they sport in the show rings today have a part to play in this, in protecting the vital organs and muscles against the cold without waterlogging the dog. They remain very active, versatile dogs (which is why it still strikes me as highly ironic that it was placed in the non-Sporting Group). George loves outdoor sports and greatly enjoys showing up other dogs in hunting and tracking competitions. Energetic and fiercely competitive, he always gives of his best, which has led him to several field champion titles, much to the chagrin of a good many pointer and retriever. He enjoys challenges and is willing to take on just about anything. George met the poodle sisters we all know and love at a poodle fanciers' rally, and they have remained friends since, tho' Georgie-boy harbours a particular soft spot for Jazzie, probably because of her being the more spirited of the two. Hmm..
I love the way you make a poodle look so sporty. Fabulous job- I love his bandana. He doesn't have a show clip I see!
The sketch of him with his tongue out is so sassy.
And yay... someone knows about the poodles history- Poodles originated in Germany and their name- Pudel meant "puddle." Hence a water dog bred to swim and retrieve ducks and water fowl. Their funny hair clip didn't weigh the dog down as it paddled across the water after game, and the curly hair remaining after the clip covered vital areas- eg: chest, caprus (wrist), hip joints, etc...
yay I'm a dog freak I knew that 'bout poodles awwwwww for pete's sake, DA is being so stupid and the picture won't load I shall bookmark & see if it's working tomorow though I'm sure it's amazing!

Thank you! He was originally Continental'd like the other two, as I figured it'd be more traditional, more of a challenge for me (I enjoy challenging myself artistically), and more of a slap in the face for the cocky dogs. But at the last minute I decided to save his dignity and give him a sporting clip (which I didn't find out about until the last minute because most of the poodle clip info sites only listed the main three clips ). It would really be more applicable anyways
Thanks for typing all of that out too, now I won't have to! heh. Watching Breed All About It avidly pays off in the end.

awwwwww the classic puppy cut, thank god you don't draw any of your dogs like a chow chow or something with the ever so hated puppy cut, if you did i would have to beat you with a dead fish
Actua;;y, it's not the puppy cut. It's the sporting clip: [link] one of the four clips allowed in the show ring. Something like the puppy cut but not quite.
And I'd thank you to treat me like a fellow dog fancier, my friend, and not someone who doesn't know jack about canines.

Aww, thanks Aluinn Yes, the bandanna was an afterthought but I think it completed him in the end, hee. I figured the sporting clip would suit his active lifestyle. I'm glad you like him!
