go me, I joined another dog RP - Slime Mold. that was a few months ago, actually, but I hope to get more integrated there. :3 thus far, it's been interesting being in a new place with new people, and if anyone has any others to recommend I'd be glad to check them out. (must have dogs, though, and preferably no wolves - nothing against wolves as animals, they just always seem to attract the crazed illiterate fangirl types.) though MG will always be my home as far as domestic-animal RP is concerned. heh. it was only after I started checking out other semirealistic canine RP sites by myself that I realised how much the Grove has spoilt me. ; P

meet Soliloquy. she's my first real IG character, and she's so much fun to play for so many reasons. :3 with each of my RP characters I try to fill a hole, characterisation-wise, that my existing characters haven't already. and I didn't have any characters that were touched in the head so... yes.

(and her family was a joy to name. S is my favourite letter, too.)

----

Born to Somnolent and Sanguine, two Italian Greyhounds belonging to a logophilic book-collector with a penchant for the letter ‘S’, the litter of seven was enthusiastically named Schist, Sibilant, Syzygy, Sarsenet, Soliloquy, Stringendo and Smidgen. They might have lived in a hovel out in the desert, but there was always something to eat – mostly fleshy cacti and small rodents that the dogs hunted down and the man duly roasted – and the home was a happy one. The man enjoyed reading aloud, and for lack of any other company he passed many a pleasant evening reading to his little hounds from his collection of salvaged books. Yellowed and tattered they might have been, but one could have sworn the dogs were listening intently to every word. They certainly treated the books with respect.

One cold evening, when the litter was about a year old, a large retriever-type female appeared on their threshold. She seemed an amiable sort and was made welcome by all. But later that night, the true nature of the stranger was made clear as she swiftly and silently tore out the throats of first Somnolent and Sanguine, and then their offspring. Soliloquy, a relatively light sleeper, awoke to the odour of blood and the bodies of her kin strewn about her, with the stranger finishing off another with cruel efficiency. As the larger dog turned on her, Soliloquy fled the scene with a choked sob of fear and pain. She might have escaped unscathed in body, but not in mind.

Since then Soliloquy has wandered alone and without a purpose, her hound’s mind and senses nonetheless helping her survive the new environment as she hunts and scavenges and hides. She was left quite unhurt but just a little distracted. She has not run with a pack since then, and perhaps in her own head she has formed her own. No matter what she is doing, she keeps up a running, mumbled commentary on her own thoughts. She refers to herself as ‘we’ and ‘us’, playing with words and syllables as if they were toys, and at times appears to actually converse with herself or members of her defunct family. Solly is good-natured but fearful and suspicious of strangers, particularly large gundog breeds. When awake, she is constantly in motion, pacing, sniffing, looking up and down and every which way, and this behaviour intensifies when she is anxious or distressed. She always chooses flight over fighting, and has long perfected the art of seamless disappearing from a threatening situation. When she is feeling more at ease and relaxed she may be playful and friendly with other dogs and even humans, but she shies away from too much touching, and her lilting, verbalised stream of consciousness often confuses and repels other dogs. But for all her oddness and introversion, Solly has a sweet and tender heart, and it pains her to see anyone hurt or in trouble, barring only animals that trigger her prey instinct – and even then, only when they actually do.

she is. :) sometimes I have trouble coming up with her ramblings, but then I just start stream-of-consciousness writing and it all comes together xD

soliloquy is quite possibly my favourite word in the english language ever. <3

Oohh gorgeous Swift. :heart: She seems fun to RP! I love her backstory..so very creative! I'm thinking about RPing, is MG a good place to RP? And I've never RPed before, so... ^^;

 thank you, Akoko, for the kind words! and yes she is very much fun to play.

as long as you can write and characterise, you can RP. it's like social interaction in a way. developing your own characters by having them interact with other people's is such an experience - you'll find out things about your characters you might not have realised before, since you're forced to think about how your own character would react to a given situation. I've certainly had that happen, and the more I play my characters the more they develop - sometimes differing quite a lot from what I had originally intended them to be! it helps make the characters seem more alive to you.

and MG is a wonderful place to RP. I got my RP start there and it has seriously spoilt me for any other place. there's just no other site that seems to compare! :giggle: SM is cool too, but it's definitely for more advanced players. MG is good no matter what level you are, we welcome all types and more experienced players will eagerly give help if it's asked for. I've introduced a few of my RP newbie friends to Mushroom Grove and they are all doing very well indeed and love it there.

so yes, sorry for gushing. I adore my little Grove, as if you couldn't tell. :D you're welcome to at least create an account and have a look around. I would love to RP with you sometime if you do join! :)

You're welcome!

Oh geez, see I've never heard anybody talk about it that way before. I guess I never really thought about it. I'm planning on RPing a Miniature Poodle character I've drawn before, but never uploaded here.

Okay, I think if join anywhere it will be there, then. The thing I'm most nervous about is jumping into stories that have already happened, and just all of a sudden there's this random new dog. But it sounds like the MGers will be nice =3 I'll definitely check it out, and let you know if I do join!

Hey, no problem. I'm glad you did, cause now I'm more willing to try it. Thanks!

well, I'm a character animator at heart, so I really do feel for each of my characters whether I'm drawing them, writing about them or making them move. characterisation is a big thing with me, and RPing has only helped me with both that and keeping my writing skills up to scratch!

minipoodle yay! :D I have a minipoodle character on their too, though I've never drawn her. we should have them meet up or something! xD

if that's your chief worry, don't let it be. the MG plot is moving very slowly, it's easy to get into and understand, and new characters appear all the time - since new people join all the time, and old players create new characters all the time - and they are all assimilated into the fabric of the community with no trouble at all. trust me, I've both seen it and had it happen. :)

fwee! :glomp:

Yeah.. |D I know what you mean. I can only play certain characters when I'm in the mood or really really tired.. xDD Then my brain is one large, blurry stream of conscious. xDDDD

: DDDDD Lawl~~~ Yes. Plus it makes me think of Shakespeare.. Alas, poor Yorick! D:

Sure thing~~! <333 *Clings*

I like the dark outline of her eye. She looks kinda creepy that way. Yay for new disturbed characters! I would be that way too if I saw my litter mates all murdered. o___o Bullet would have totally owned that retriever though. He's 20 pounds of FAST. And he's so slick even if you could catch him you couldn't hold on. He runs bigger (and smaller) dogs in circles lol. Are you going to do a picture of the evil retriever doggie? That would be cool. I may want to do some fan arts of her. She sounds like a psycho serial killer dog.
wow, I didn't even notice I was doing that! o.o and yes disturbed characters make things interesting.

I want to see Bullet owning doggies now. that is funny.

I have sort of done a picture of evil retriever doggie! but she is at home so I can't upload her. I'm introducing her in december when I am back haha. and yes she is a psycho serial killer dog. she has half her face ripped off. o.o
